About Me

I was born and raised in Pearl of Orient, Penang Malaysia. The land of Food Heaven. I got married in 2010 and since then, i moved to the USA and now live with my American husband to start a family. We recently settled down in Murrieta, Southern California. I love to eat and i love to cook but i never really cooked through out my time in Malaysia. This is because i have 1 awesome grandmama, 4 talented aunties and 2 handsome uncles that cooked for me all the time. Each and everyone of them are very good at cooking especially my grandma. I grew up eating home cooked meals and rarely eat out.

On special occasions, my aunts took turns to cook for the whole family. For examples, during Chinese New Year, my grandmama and aunties have to prepare the ingredients like 1 week in advance. Soaking and cleaning some of the ingredients like bamboo shoots or sea cucumber. Reunion dinner takes at least 5 of us to prepare the food and they start at 4am in the morning to cook for at least 30 people. ( this is just the immediate family members. I have yet to add in our friends and distant relatives that will come and join us later at night).

During reunion dinner, we will have at least 16 dishes. Dishes that you would not be able to find in any restaurant in the country. Dishes that soon no one will know how to make because it's freaking difficult and the art of making most of these dishes are dying off soon. I am hoping i will be able to learn all the recipes from my grandmama and be able to preserve this part of our culture and my family's tradition.

My grandmama is the love of my life. This blog is mainly trying to capture as many recipes as possible from my grandmama's kitchen but i will continue to keep adding other recipes as well.

I hope you will enjoy reading this blog.
